We specialize in . . .

IMG is committed to the tug and barge industry. Our lawyers work alongside some major players in the industry, which is why we have a thorough understanding of the legal framework governing this industry. With clients ranging from small tug and barge operators to multinational oil and gas corporations boasting a fleet of chartered vessels, IMG can provide the advice and support when duty calls.

Tailored Legal Services for the Workboat Industry

Contract Review and Drafting.  Our attorneys frequently design, draft, and negotiate a variety of transactional documents for our clients.  Examples include, charter party agreements, crew contracts, bills of lading, purchase and sale agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and confidentiality agreements.  However, we frequently help our client with their corporate governance matters, insurance policy reviews, and acquisition due diligence. As a relatively compact firm, we are able to provide tailored legal services to small to mid-sized tug and barge companies with no in-house counsel at a fraction of the cost of other law firms.  This allows us to deliver outstanding legal and commercial results for our clients in a practical and cost-effective way.

Mediation, Arbitration, and Litigation.   When tug and barge operations turn contentious, we represent clients in international arbitrations around the world, under many different laws, as well as in litigation before U.S. courts at all levels.  We also we work alongside all the different parties that may be involved in tug and barge incident or casualty, including Vessel Owners, Charterers, shippers, insurers, financial institutions, freight forwarders, crew, passengers, governments, and other local interests.  Indeed, our experience in contentious cross-border litigation and arbitration gives us the insight to advise our tug and barge clients through the complex issues that can accompany large and sophisticated disputes and transactions - regardless of the location.

Insurance Recovery.  A true test of H&M or P&I insurance policy is how it responses to a claim.  Should an insurance company fail to pay a claim that our clients were paying for and had a contractual obligation to cover, our legal team will use its experience and established professional relationships in the insurance market to best position your claim with the goal of securing the maximum potential insurance recovery.
