Thomas R. Walsh
Thomas grew up in Southeast Alaska in the town of Petersburg, a community steeped in the Alaskan commercial fishing industry. At the age of 12, Thomas began working as a deckhand on his father’s drift-gillnet boat, the F/V CHESAPEAKE, in False Pass. Since then, Thomas has crewed on all manner of fishing boats, in multiple different fisheries across the state of Alaska.
Thomas earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. Thomas focuses his practice on assisting clients in the Pacific Northwest commercial fishing industries and in recreational yachting, where his experience in fisheries and vessel operation is most useful.
Growing up in a fishing community and having spent over a decade working as a deckhand on commercial fishing boats, Thomas is familiar with multiple aspects of the commercial fishing industry, from vessel ownership and operation, to processing and international seafood marketing. Thomas is well aware of the difficulties associated with the business of commercial fishing and the complexities of vessel ownership. Thomas has experience assisting companies and vessel owners with all of the transactional issues and litigation that may arise in the course of doing business in the Pacific Northwest’s fishing industries.
Thomas also assists recreational yachting clients with the multitude of legal issues that arise in the course of yacht ownership and/or charter. Thomas has a sophisticated understanding of the complex regulations and tax issues, both domestic and international, that bear on the acquisition or sale of yachts and he provides International Maritime Group’s recreational yachting clients with a tailored legal service, specific to that industry.
Thomas is fluent in Italian, an avid guitarist, and lives in Portland, Oregon with his fiancé and their cat.
